WARRENTON —Food Lion grocery store workers here denied that any of the unsanitary practices alleged in a “Prime Time Live” television program last Thursday happen at their store.
The program, which aired at 10 p.m., Thursday on ABC, claimed that Food Lion meat and deli workers routinely passed off out-of-date and spoiled meat for good at stores in North Carolina.
Program host Diane Sawyer told the TV audience that the show had obtained hidden-camera footage of Food Lion meat department workers re-wrapping spoiled meat, fish and poultry products.
A former worker told Sawyers that they had taken spoiled ham and rinsed it in a Clorox bleach solution to kill the odor, chopped the meat and repackaged it as chopped ham.
Another worker claimed to have taken spoiled fish and rinsed it in a solution of baking soda and lemon.
