Small towns and villages are helped by bypasses. When the highway department was planning to bypass Washington, many residents opposed the plan. They believed the town would wither away if the through traffic were diverted. The highway department didn’t listen and today the town is far more prosperous than before. Now the highway department is planning to move the Route 522 traffic around Sperryville on a bypass. It will be a nicer place and the business cMmate will improve when that bypass is built.
