'Mediterraneo' is movie
“Mediterraneo,” rated PG-13, starring Claudio Bigagli and Vanna Barba will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15 at the Theatre at Washington, Va.
A little bit of M.. A.. S.. H, a dash of Cinema Paradiso and you have the bittersweet spirit of Italy’s Oscar winner. While occupying the Greek Islands in 1941, a worthless group of Italian soldiers lose contact with the War when their ship sinks and one of the men destroys the radio. Stranded in a village with only women and priests (the Germans took the men away), the soldiers spend the next three years playing soccer, painting frescoes, and taking scheduled turns with the local working girl. “Rescue” from this dazzling blue and white paradise (the Aegean Island of Kastellorizo) means a return to post-war Italy and the work of rebuilding a country. Progress, yes, but not the choice of all.
