On Sunday, the search resumed, and more than 100 people, including the Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference, local fire and rescue volunteers, Park Service rangers, dog teams from search organizations and sheriff’s departments and the Vhv ginia State Police joined the effort.
The massive search yielded nothing, however, and was suspended again as darkness fell Sunday evening. At dawn Monday, searchers again fanned out, covering a wider area under the theory that the lost youth may have wandered far in the nearly two days since he disappeared.
Searchers combed the few abandoned structures still standing in the park’s outback, as well as bams and other buildings on properties abutting the park boundaries.
As the search continued, a'group of senior citizens hiking on the fire road saw Wentz pop out of the woods. They were aware of the search, Reeves said, and immediately “collared” the boy.
