Back in the saddle

Now that the dust has settled on the election, and the pace here at the Rappahannock News has subsided to its usual non-stop gallop, I thought it would be a good time to get acquainted.
My background is in newspapers. I began with the Culpeper Star-Exponent in 1968 and returned there in 1974 after working for newspapers in Fredericksburg, Newport News, and Annapolis, Md. I started working for managing editor Bill Diehl in Culpeper as a cub reporter fresh out of college.
Over the next several years 1 worked at general reporting, photography and editing, before coming back to this area to be managing editor.
I left the daily newspaper grind to spend more time raising children. (Working for morning newspapers meant leaving for work before the children got home in the afternoon and waking in the morning after they had left for school.)
My wife, Sharon, and I have long considered Rappahannock county to be our home. We moved back here permanently in 1974 and have lived in the F. T. Valley ever since. Our two children, Heather and Douglas, went through the County’s public school system and both have graduated.
