After spending a few days as a tourist in London, Dencler boarded a train for a memorable trip through the English countryside, past storybook villages of thatch-roofed huts to the seaside city of Devon. Here she spent four days working in the kitchen at Gidleigh Park, where she said, she found the staff and local residents to be charming.

At Gidleigh Park she studied the products particular to Devon, especially the cheeses and clotted cream that the area is so well known for.
