Stphanie Siemnes, vice-president of the American Vaulting Association, conducted an afternoon clinic for students from the stables and members of the Rappahannock Pony Club and judged a Medals test in the morning.
Heather Marsh, co-owner of the stables, said there were 23 students for the clinic with about half from the Fairfax group. Students began with warm up exercises on the ground, then practiced vaulting moves on a barrel, and by the end of the day were performing on a trotting horse.
“It was really fun, a positive good day," Ms. Marsh said. “This is a real teaching tool. It helps build confidence.”
Ms. Marsh added that the stable is planning to develop a local vaulting team, incorporate vaulting in their instruction, and host a followup clinic in the spring.
