ter. He is living with Jim and Carolyn Manwaring in Woodville. He said he misses being able to see a long distance as he can on his family’s dairy farm in northern Germany.
He finds his American friends “busy, busy,” with after school jobs. “There is nothing like being able to go with your friends after school or in the evening to cafes,” he said. He says he misses tea, which he drinks every day, four times a day, as many as 16 cups. “It’s a time the family comes together,” he said. “You put rock sugar in the cup, pour on the hot tea and add cream. It’s like a ceremony.”
Jose “Pepe” Leal from Spain is living with Tom and Karen Von Fange in Woodville. He agreed that it is surprising to find so many students with after school jobs. He said in his country parents pay for everything for their children until they finish school and go to work. “It’s like everybody has a car and everybody works,” he said.
He said he sometimes misses life in a big city. In former years students from Spain found that Americans thought Spain was somewhere near Mexico, but Pepe says that because of the Olympic Games in Barcelona last summer everyone knows where Spain is.
Pepe also ran cross country in the fail and plans to play soccer in the spring. He says it is surprising
