Sunday, 10 a.m., Piney River Ranger Station, Shenandoah National Park, Rappahannock County, Virginia. I had left home in the rain, drove all the way there in the rain, and it was still raining when I got there. Foggy? Well, you could barely see your hand in front of your face (exaggeration), although it was quite gloomy. I put on my rain coat, gum boots, checked my bag to see if I had all the necessaries, leaned my walking stick against the car and waited to see what other “nut” would show up. I really wasn’t going to tell anyone Pd gone on this hike or even showed up if Pd been the only one. But. . .guess what? There waiting on me was Charlie Dwyer from Woodbridge, Prince William County, Virginia and his son, Buck, also from Woodbridge.
