The Rappahannock High School girls basketball team closed out its season Monday night with a first round loss to George Mason.
The lady Panthers were down by only two points, 20-18 at the end of the first half, but could not keep pace with the top-seeded team in the second half. George Mason was up by five after three quarters, 91-26, and pulled away in the final period to win 48-35.
Last week the Panthers lost a hard-fought game to. Brentsville 46-44. It was the last home game for Emma Swatman and Susan Payne, both seniors. Swatman, who led all scorers with 21 points, kept the home team in the game, even though they were playing catch-up most of the evening as Brentsville led from the opening tip.
With less than a minute to go, the Panthers managed to tie the game at 44 all.
