Rappahannock’s official political history, I ask you to note that the records of the State Board of Elections show that Rappahannock supported Stevenson, the Democrat, over Eisenhower, the Republican, in 1956 by a vote of 523 to 514; Kennedy, the Democrat, over Nixon, the Republican by a vote of 544 to 426 in 1960; and Carter, the Democrat, over Ford, the Republican, by a vote of 1071 to 881 in 1976. Additionally, in 1968, President Nixon, in carrying Rappahannock County, received 595 votes to 394 for Humphrey and 372 for Wallace, thus receiving substantially less than a majority of the total votes cast,
A fair construction of past election results in Rappahannock holds that the county has followed the nation since 1948 with two exceptions, those being 1956, when Eisenhower defeated Stevenson nationwide but ..ost Rappahannock, and 1992, when Clinton won nationally but lost to Bush here.
