Waters to run
in state meet

Jason Waters, Rappahannock County’s star cross-country runner, will be competing in the State meet Saturday in Charlottesville.
Waters placed second out of 96 *• runners in the Region B meet last .*■ week. It was the first time in 20 *1 years that the Rappahannock run- •; ners have participated in that meet.
Mark Jenkins placed 34th, Shane < Lambert 35th, Chris Payne 43rd, and Juergen Venema 52nd.
Sari Pellinen placed 18th out of 89 girls. The team as a whole epded its season with 10 wins and three losses. The Panthers were fourth in the district and fifth in the regional competition.
Jason Waters led the boys team throughout the regular season, placing first in every meet. Running against the girls, Finnish exchange student Sari Pellinen also placed first a number of times.
Venema from Germany and Pepe Leal from Spain also were strong runners for the cross country team.
Tim Corder has been coaching the cross country team for the past three years. Under his leadership the team has grown in size and ability. Corder and the team are grateful to the Bleu Rock Inn for the use of their property for the school’s cross-country course this season.
