architectural treasures, including its porticoes and colonnade. They will see the restored grand staircase. They will walk through the center hall out to a colonnade with breathtaking views of the countryside. The old stonewalled kitchen with brick flooring and huge fireplaces on the ground floor also will be seen on the tour.
The Fletcher daughters graciously have offered their mansion as the setting for the Historical Society's afternoon fund raiser. The society is raising funds to help furnish the new addition to its headquarters on Gay Street in Washington, Va.
The daughters also have donated the use of a big, white tent, tables, chairs and many other catering supplies for use by the society at its fund raiser which follows by one day, a family wedding at Montpelier.
"We never could have done this fund raiser without the Fletcher daughters," said Raymond Gooch, president of the Historical Society. "We appreciate the tremendous support they have given us."
At the fund raiser, the Historical Society will be accepting donations to help buy the necessary furniture and equipment for the new addition. Everything from desk chairs to office machines to an archive storage system is needed.
Those making donations will be able to have their generosity memorialized by a small brass marker on an item, such as a desk, chair or filing cabinet.
Tickets to the event are $25 per adult; $15 per students. Children under 10 are free.
