In another tower issue, Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chief Roger Roach, representing the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, spoke to the Board of Supervisors about replacing the emergency communications tower at the jail because of the poor radio and pager coverage with the existing tower. Initially, Association recommendations called for a 180 foot tower (to replace the existing 80 foot tower), but chief Roach explained that new signal strength mapping indicated that a smaller tower would probably suffice. He will return with final recommendations at the October meeting of the Board.
