County Administrator John! McCarthy reported that the’ Sprint/PCS cell tower application; had been received and that it; includes a request for seven towers,' five of which are 199 footers—the! maximum permitted by the County's! telecommunications ordinance with-; out special approval. The proposed; towers are to be located at the Amissville and Sperryville Fire! Halls, H. B. Wood property east ofj Woodville, on Welch property at the; foot of Shootz Hollow in Huntly, on; Massie property at Massies Corner-' on US 211, on Eastham property?, behind the Ben Venue store, and onj Buckner property at Buckners* Corner near Route 231 in F. T. Valley.*; All of the proposed towers, except for* the Huntly tower, are to be. monopoles; the application proposes", a lattice tower for the Huntly site. "
The Sprint application will be reviewed by the Planning Commission in October, and will be probably be acted upon in November,. Mr. McCarthy said. It will then be passed to the Board of Supervisors, who may hear it in November or December of this year. If approval is granted, it is likely that construction will commence in late Spring of 2001, with completion shortly thereafter.
The draft agenda for the Planning Commission meeting of September ! 20 includes "SPRINT/PCS Applications discussion," but that discussion will be directed toward | the procedural aspects of the hearings and not to the substance of the application. Because of the broad interest in the cell tower issue, the public hearing on the application will likely be held in the RCHS auditorium or other large venue. The date and location of the hearing will be published in the Rappahannock News.
