Fisheries.
The burgeoning black bear population in Virginia, and a significant number of other states, has resulted in an increase in sightings and in instances of bear-human conflicts. Some wish to# control the black bear population by extending the hunting season, and others prefer non-lethal methods of control.
A State black bear management plan is being prepared now by the Department, and copies of the draft will be provided to the Board this winter for their comment. New rules for the 2001-2002 hunting seasons will be set at a meeting next
