This past week, the village of Flint Hill - and the
Rappahannock community in general - mourns
the passing of L. John Trott Jr.
Mr. Trott was known to anyone who spent time in the towns of Washington and Flint Hill. He made weekly visits to the town to deliver his column for the Times Community Newspapers. He often visited the county library to check on the bluebird box status. Quite often as one would travel around the county, you could spot his car pulled off on the shoulder and there was Mr. Trott picking a container of wild berries. He was never too busy to share a story of yet another berry picking adventure, jelly-making experience, an unusual bird story or just passing thoughts. This past week just didn't seem the same without the presence of John Trott.
Men like John Trott, gentle and strong, wise and caring, do not come along every day. The world is a richer place because of his life, and we are left poorer by his passing.
