RN: "You also give classes in ceramics. Tell us about them."
SZ: "I have done some group children’s classes in the summertime. They are great because young people are very open and love to touch the clay and like to get dirty. Children are uninhibited and they "tend to pick up on the wheel faster than adults. As we get older we tend to push down our intuition in favor of education or what we deem as intellect. Often times families come by here with their kids and the children will sit down with a lump of clay and within 10 minutes they are making pots because with a few directions they understand. Adults tend to overcompensate for fear of failure."
RN: "Now, turning to your gallery, Blue Ridge Artisans. How do you choose the other artists to include in your gallery?"
SZ: "The initial criteria are my knowing the artist really well. All the artists in the gallery are close personal friends who all have very strong work. Actually many of them are more accomplished artists than I am.
RN: "Your gallery is one of the most unique we've seen and you change it constantly. What effect are you trying to communicate and what would you tell customers who want to include such an interesting and unusual look in their homes."
SZ: "It is sort of a haphazard approach because I’ve never done anything in retail so I’m shooting in the dark. The work is all very strong and I think if you use strong work the end result will be good. It’s
