He is survived by his mother; his wife of 41 years, Rebecca Joyce Atkins of Sperryville; a son, Michael R. Atkins of Luray and a daughter, Tammy Lynn Dorfman and her husband David of Gloucester.
Additional survivors include two granddaughters, Amanda Atkins and Jamie L. Dorfman; a grandson, Randall Atkins; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Branham of Culpeper; a brother, Wilbur Lee Atkins and his wife Sue of Sperryville; one sister, Mary Jane Settle and her husband Fred of Front Royal and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Josephine Jenkins.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Sept. 11 at Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. Alpheus Atkins and Rev. John K. Burke officiating. Interment followed in Sperryville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Donnie Richards, Greg Richards, Tony Richards, Paul Fincham, Bobby Foster and Jake Tharpe.
