The formal grand opening ceremony for the partnership between the Rappahannock County High School and the Fauquier Hospital Foundation occurred on Wednesday, April 11. President and CEO of the Fauquier Hospital, Mr. Rodger Baker, was the guest of honor and cut the ribbon to officially dedicate and open the facility.

Representatives from the Fauquier Hospital marketing department, the Sports Medicine specialist, Mike Augustine, and members of the Hospital Foundation Board, to include our own John McCarthy were also in attendance. Many community members also attended, including Mr. Bob Anderson representing the Board of Supervisors, Mr. Frank Warner, Mrs. Rosa Crocker and Mrs Rose Ann Sharp from the School Board, as well as many Rappahannock County school personnel.

The evolution of the weight room took place quick• ly. Beginning, last fall the ath■ letic department was looking for a way to fund a weight ' room to help athletes improve and train. Director Jon Smythe decided to approach Fauquier Hospital to see if there was an interest in helping with the project. After attending a sports medicine seminar sponsored by Fauquier Hospital, Smythe and his coaching staff were even more convinced of the ‘ need for a weight room to help in injury prevention. At that , time Rappahannock High School was the only school in the Bull Run District with no weight room.
