supported Smythe during the development of the proposal. It was then presented to the funding group of the hospital, the Foundation Board. They approved the project with a challenge to the school to find matching funds to complete the total weight room cost. Smythe then approached County residents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Darby of Woodville to see if the matching funds could be acquired from one source.

The Darbys had originally contacted him about donating some funds for uniforms. Smythe suggested they consider a more perrftanent project based donation and they agreed.

The weight room took shape from there. The Athletic Department had the dedicated room painted and mirrors applied to the walls while they researched sources for the equipment needed. In addition, funding was also provided by the Digges family in memory of deceased student, Daniel Digges.

The room is now ready and students from the spring sports have begun using it. A weight training specialist, Allen Comer was initially used to orient all students to the equipment use and it’s care. There is a plan for the room to be open to the public but the Athletic Department is looking for funding to hire someone to supervise the room, help design personal training programs, and clean up. Anyone interested in the task contact the Athletic Director at RCHS, 987-8575.

In the meantime, the public will have access to the facility, three nights a week, for a monthly fee of $10. To gain access, contact the Athletic Director.
