Budget adopted
Council members unanimously adopted the town’s budget for the 2008 fiscal year.
The $6,412,150 budget includes a $4 million interest-firee loan that town leaders plan to take on to fund the wastewater treatment system for Washington.
Town beautification
Wendy Weinberg told the council that the Washington Hospitality and Visitors Association would like to partner with town leaders to help maintain the public areas around Washington.
She suggested that the group could help hire a landscaper or get a volunteer organization, such as the Boy Scouts, to do the work.
“We’re all used to what we see and perhaps we don’t notice” areas that could be improved, Weinberg said. She pointed out the park in front of the County Courthouse as one area that needs weeding.
Council Member John Sullivan said he supported the association’s suggestion.
Council Member Claudia Mitchell said a plan needs to be formulated to make a townbeautification effort effective in the long term.
“I don’t think we can hodge-podge it,” she said.
