Officials weigh in
County Administrator John McCarthy said that until he heard from residents about six weeks ago, he had not realized how widespread the phone problems were along the Rappahannock-Madison County border.
The principal regulatory body that oversees telecommunications in Virginia is the State Corporation Commission, but “we can certainly add our voice to it to demand better service for our people,” McCarthy said.
“The phone companies hate getting dragged in front of the State Corporation Commission for performance issues, so raising a ruckus can help,” he added.
The issue will be on the agenda for the Board of Supervisors’ meeting on July 2.
U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, R-7th, was the first elected official to act on the situation.
