As the train crosses Fountain Rock Road, you’ll see Barrick’s Farm which has been a working farm for over 180 years, established in the early 1820s.
No doubt the highlight of the trip is passing over the Monocacy River Bridge. The original bridge was built sometime between 1869 and 1872 by the Frederick and Pennsylvania Line Rail Road Company. The present bridge was damaged by the Hurricane Agnes flood of 1972 with the southernmost two spans of the bridge falling into the water. The bridge was rebuilt in 1995 by Walkersville Southern. After a 24-year hiatus, trains were able to use the bridge again during the 1996 operating season.
