Under investigation

SCC spokesman Ken Schrad said Verizon is also being investigated for alleged failures to respond to telephone outages in a satisfactory time frame.

Under the commission’s rules, the company has to restore service within 24 hours of an outage at least 85 percent of the time and 48 hours 95 percent of the time.

“The company has hot been meeting those standards,” Schrad said. Both urban and rural areas have been affected.

SCC staffers have been working with out-of-service response time complaints for a year. Six weeks ago it was elevated to a more formal level, Schrad said.

Verizon is required to show why the regulatory agency should not sanction the company.
