Slate Mills residents have been battling with
phone problems for several years. But during the
last few weeks state and federal officials have voiced their opinions to Verizon.
Phone service has been erratic to say the least and for several of the elderly citizens who may need emergency services, not being able to call for help is intolerable.
Feeding phone lines to rural areas like Rappahannock County, and in particular more remote areas like those found around Slate Mills, may not be the highest priority for a giant telecommunications company like Verizon. But they’ve been getting an earful of late.
Hopefully, the message is getting through.
Adding to the weight of local outcry are the perhaps stronger muscles of politicians Del. Todd Gilbert, Sen. Mark Obenshain and Rep. Eric Cantor. All three have gone to bat for the locals that have too often been deprived of a dial tone.
