IS A CASKET THE SAME AS A COFFIN?
Most people use the terms “casket” and “coffift” interchangeably. Yet, there is a difference, which largely hinges on its design. While both perform the same function of housing the body of the deceased, a coffin features a tapered design that is less wide at the head and feet than it is at the shoulders. A coffin also has a lid, which is completely removable. A casket, on the other hand, has a rectangular shape with a hinged lid. Aside from those specific physical features, each has its own distinct character. While coffins are usually thought to be simple and austere, caskets feature a wider variety of materials and features. The choice depends on personal preference, style, and even religious belief.
