According to Galvin, if all goes according to plan, those who do make the cut may also make the transition with TORCH as it undergoes the process of becoming a traveling troupe, made possible in part by the recent purchase of stage platforms. The threestage effect incorporated into “Great Expectations” is unique to TORCH productions, as are the serious nature of the script and challenges posed by the language.
“What we’re doing is trying to translate Victorian Age England into something that could come out of their mouths properly,” Van Dyke said. “And we’ve really tested their endurance and skill level this year, something we’ve worked toward in workshops ... This is hard on the kids, especially (the days leading to opening night). But we’re keeping their energy up.”
