MINERAL MINING INSPECTOR

Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia

Starting Salary Range: $39,384 - 80,829 (Band 5) Position No. 360. The Department of Mines. Minerals and Energy, Division of Mineral Mining, is seeking an individual to enforce mineral mining and reclamation laws governing the mineral extraction industry through periodic inspections, training, and operator assistance. The successful applicant will work in the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia area and will be expected to make frequent day/ovemight trips within the state. This position has been designated as required to file a Statement of Economic Interests in accordance with § 2.23-3114 of the Code of Virginia. Qualifications: Knowledge of mineral mining reclamation practices and mine safety and health standards is required. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures: ability to work without close supervision and make sound independetn decisions: ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to use personal computer: ability to interact effectively with individuals and groups: and ability to stoop, crawl, climb, bend, walk for long distances oyer rough terrain, work in confined spaces and at heights. Must have valid driver's license and excellent driving record. Must be capable of obtaining a Mineral Mining Inspector certificate upon employment. This requires either holding a valid Mineral Mining Foreman Certification or having 5 years ot mining experience or equivalent work-related experience and passing the foreman's examination. Applicants with "an Associate's Degree in Mining Technology or Civil Technology, or Geology will receive 3 years credit towards the 5 years experience requirement. Applicants with an Associate's Degree in Mining Technology or Civil Technology will receive 2 years credit. The successful candidate must also pass the Mineral Mine Inspector's examination before being considered for employment. Experience in mining, health and safety, conservation, reclamation or related teaching/training fields and a background in information technology and/or adult education principles is desired.
