The streets of the town of Washington will be alive with fun beginning at noon on the 4th of July. Dancers, clowns, pageantry, craft demonstrations and sales, an art show, flea markets, book sales and display of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department’s new vehicle are just a few highlights planned for the afternoon.
Ice cream and cake, sandwiches and iced tea will be sold at the Trinity Episcopal Church yard. Steve Critzer and the Washington Volunteer Firemen will be roasting and serving a pork dinner at the Monument Grounds on Gay Street. The electronic game craze will finally make it to Washington with video games at the town hall across the street from John Walker Jenkins’ auction House on Gay Street.
Under the sponsorship of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, artist Margery Albright and make-up specialist Libby Snead will combine their talents at RLEP’s booth in painting clown faces on anyone who wants his or her spirits raised for the occasion.
Priscilla FUlebrown will man another RLEP contribution, an old fashioned coin toss game with lots of laughs for everyone and prizes for the skillful.
At 6:30, the action will move to Avon Hall where Mr. and Mrs. William Carrigan will again host an Independence Day program featuring foot races for youngsters, storing patriotic music and th* grand finale of fireworks at dark. Phil Irwin of Voice of America will
