Government waste is the villain behind the nation’s current economic woes, according to Lindsay Dorrier, the Democratic candidate in this November’s race for the 7th District seat in the U. S. House of Representatives.
Stop waste and then unemployment and interest rates will drop, the Albemarle County commonwealth’s attorney told Rappahannock Democrats at last Wednesday’s county committee meeting.
Dorrier’s approach is an economic domino theory in reverse. He believes the federal budget can be balanced by eliminating waste. Once that balance is achieved, interest rates will drop, stimulating business productivity and creating a favorable economic climate which will, in turn, reduce unemployment.
"Every percent of unemployment costs the government S2S billion annually. Reduce that unemployment figure by four percentage points and that alone will balance the budget," he said.
Another $10 billion in government costs can be saved through each percentage point shaved off the interest rate, Dorrier added.
