Twenty or so Rappahannock boys served with Mosby but perhaps the most colorful were Robert Woodford “Bob Ridley” Eastham and Charlie Dear.
According to Helen Holschuh, president of the county’s Historical Society, "Bob Ridley” was once trapped at Pleasant View Farm outside of Washington by Union troops. Warned that the enemy had arrived, he ran upstairs. The house was built in separate sections of stone, brick and logs and the upstair's portions of three sections had no second floor connections—to go from the brick to the stone section, it was necessary to first go downstairs to the first floor, cross to another stairway and then climb back up.
