This is not to say the ratification job will be easy, but there appears to be a growing recognition in the land that ERA is an idea whose time came a long time ago, say about the time the Constitution was adopted.
The opponents of ERA will, of course, be fighting hard, but it’s safe to say if they had been alive in the 1780’s these same folks would have been in the forefront of those who battled so passionately against ratification of the Constitution itself.
Indeed, one can almost hear a hoop-skirted Mrs. Schlafly warning Ben Franklin and James Madison that their wild idea of a republic based on human equality would inevitably lead to co-ed privies behind the new nation's Capitol building!
