In the 1950’s, Mrs. Arthur Miller edited a column in the Rappahannock News reprinting items that had been published in the Blue Ridge Guide, a publication that existed in the county from 1886 to 1936. One old news story, reprinted on November 9. 1950. was of a day in the life of the people of Flint Hill. They day recounted was July 23, 1914. and the Guide’s reporter described it thus:

"The business week began Monday morning as usual. We can forecast one Monday what will take place next. At 12:30 R.E. Baggarly got up to a give a bottle of ale and a word of cheer to some one 9jf late going home.
