Spectators are invited to bring picnic suppers to their seats on the courthouse hill which provides the best view of the evening’s entertainment. There is no parking at Avon Hall so drivers should park in town, at the Fire Department lot or the old Washington School and walk, entering the grounds from Gay Street over the courthouse hill.
There will be no refreshments provided for the public at Avon Hall. Mr. Carrigan and other organizers of Washington’s old fashioned Independence Day suggest that hungry spectators who haven’t brought a picnic from home stop by the Monument Grounds and support the Washington Volunteer Fire Department by buying a roast pork supper.
As part of the preIndependence Day festivities, Sursum Corda School and Day Care Center will begin its annual fund raising auction at John Walker Jenkins' Auction House on Friday evening, July 2, at 7:30.
Then on Saturday night, the Rappahannock Center for the Arts and the Community will host a fun(d) raiser of its own, a block dance in front of the court house from 8 p.m. to midnight with music provided by popular WEER dee-jay Jeff Harper. Tickets at $5 per person may be purchased at Natures Foods and Cafe, the Rappahannock News office or any board member of RAAC.
