The Doric brick structure was completed bv James Leake Powers in I8.">8 as a Presbyterian Church and continued in that use until |»9| when only two active members remained. During the next half century, despite an abortive effort to turn it into a town hall, trees and shrubs grew wild, eventually hiding the building from view .
