Pressed for a progress report on Rappahannock’s solid waste problem, Supervisor Charles Estes said Monday the county is “hunting hard” for a landfill site, but has limited authority concerning the dump it uses.
“We have no control over the dump. We don’t own the dump,” he said. “We don’t hold the lease. That leaves us hunting hard to find a location for a landfill and a dog pound. We’re hunting hard, that’s what we’re doing.”
According to Robert Forman of the Health Department’s Waste Management Division, capacity at the privately owned and operated landfill on Clifton Clark’s property near Woodville will run out within the next six months, if not sooner.
Mr. Forman, who originally projected the landfill’s life to end this month, is planning an inspection trip to the site within the next two to three weeks. If he determines that capacity has been reached, a closure
