owned by Enoch Kite and son, John was the first traction engine (one which moved about under its own power) in Rappahannock County. Besides being used to run the sawmill, it was used to operate a threshing machine pulling the machine about from farm to farm to thresh wheat and other small grain. The photograph was taken by J. J. Hitchcock on the Kite farm near Viewtown, now owned by George Kidwell and called Rock Hill Farm.
