The building inspector reported that information on a certification program for the county's plumbers, electricians and mechanical workers (heating and air conditioning installers and repairers) is being forwarded by the state. To become certified, a contractor must register for an examination with the Culpeper building office, paying a $5 application fee. Tests are supplied by the state; when the applicant’s test arrives, he or she is notified.
“If you fail the test, you can retake it as often as you want,” said Mr. Smet, explaining that the certification program is aimed at eliminating unqualified, fly-by-night contractors.
