Age had a thing or two to show youth at Saturday’s Old Dominion Hunt races at Ben Venue.
In the featured owner-rider timber race, the oldest horse and jockhy in the field — 13-year-old Cookin’
N Lookin and ^0-year-old Paul B. Cramer Jr. — showed their wrinkled heels to a field of much younger horses and riders and could not be beaten.
After duelling throughout with Dr. William Russell and Marat — the current, and until Saturday, undefeated leaders of the Seven Corners owner-rider timber series — Mr. Cramer and Cookin’ N Lookin pulled ahead before the last fence and won by about four lengths.
“I think he’s probably a better rider and has a better horse than I do,” Mr. Cramer said of his challenger after the race. “But Cookin’ and I have got between us 73 years of experience. We got him beat with experience!”
