The superintendent also told the board that a Fauquier County firm has been asked for an estimate on repairing the potholes in the high school parking lot.
In another item relating to buildings and grounds, Mr. Estabrook reported that final architectural approval has been given to repairs to the high school roof. Chairman Beverly Massie noted that neither the high school nor the elementary school roofs sprung leaks in heavy rains this past weekend. “This is a case where no news is good news!” joked the superintendent.
Following a long executive session during which recommendations for offering contracts to teachers were reviewed, the board voted unanimously to approve the certified personnel list as presented by Mr. Estabrook. Resignations were accepted from two high school teachers, effective at the end of the current school year, and cafeteria worker Effie Settle, effective April 15. A review of the superintendent’s list indicates that one teacher now at the high school was not offered a contract for 1986-87.
The action at Tuesday’s meeting leaves the board with three vacancies for 1986-87, well below the almost 40 percent turnover last year. "We expect to get more resignations,” assistant superintendent Tom Campbell conceded, declining to speculate on the number. “A lot will depend on what the supervisors do with next year’s budget and what happens in the surrounding counties.”
