French students had done some preparation in advance for their trip. Each student had researched an Impressionist artist and reported to their class on him. Therefore, the students could bring a better understanding to the paintings than they could have before. They knew better what to look for since they had listened to reports by classmates. They had also observed pictures of paintings in advance so they had a sense of recognition at the gallery.
French students April Williams, Karen Jordan, and John McCoy felt that they were able to appreciate the Impressionist period better now that they had seen the “real thing.”
