“We rode a safe course and everything went right,” said Mike Brown who currently leads the fast time division as a member of another pair riding Spreader with partner Sally Cunningham on Emily. Spreader was entered in one of the timber races later in the day, hence Mr. Brown rode in a different pair.
The only other team to complete the course in the fast time division was the Old Dominion Hound’s couple of Cheryl Keeney on Fire’s Transition and Mark Keeney on Winchester with a time of 9:02 minutes.
Unlike many courses, where the optimum time is frequently several minutes slower than the fast time, there was only about one and a half minutes difference between the fastest time at Old Dominion and the op - timum.
The optimum had been set the previous day by a member of the hunt at 9:58 minutes. The closest team to the optimum was again from the Rappahannock Hunt. Suzie Poole on Melody and Mary Dobrovir on Lilly sped around the course in 9:59.6 minutes, very close to the set time.
