The “ritual room” contains Joel HoyePs dramatic pieces that make use of shredded and real money, sea shells, egg shells, gold and silver plated masks; Rex Slack’s humorous “You Should Have Been in Pictures” which places the viewer on the screen in a movie theater; Cindy Mahan’s evocative photographs; Doug Ball’s powerful and brightly colored Rimbaud portrait; Stephen Wright’s dark and primitive acrylics; Marbet Wolfson’s tiny surrealistic landscapes with figures; Cathy Kiley’s cubist face woven in basket form; Janet Kerig’s “Rapunzel” — long woven fibers in the middle of the room; and the magical construction of Page Levy who uses bones, feathers, small sculptures of witch heads, straw and gold painted cicada shells.

The third room of the gallery opens with Francie Schroeder’s dramatic photograph “See No Evil” and the beautiful “Sweet Dreams,” and continues with Henry Eastwood’s stirring portrait of Archie Dodson, the large excellent black and white portraits of children by Elsa Rosenthal, Esther and Franklin Schmidt’s haunting back-lit photograph of Lisa and Stuart Eiland, and Sandra Forbush’s pastels of beautiful women and jockeys.

The show is open on weekends, Friday through Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. until April 27. Many of the artists are available for commissioned work. “Portraits and the Human Form” is a stimulating and worthwhile look at something that is taken for granted in daily life. After seeing it, the people you see every day may not look quite the same.
