Six Rappahannock County High School students were among 90 outstanding students invited to participate in the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium held at Virginia Tech on March 30-April 1. This symposium was placed on the Advisory List of National Contests and Activities by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors were eligible to be nominated to attend. Other requirements included intelligence, alertness, and high performance in mathematics, physics, earth science, chemistry, biology, or other science courses.
The six RCHS students were nominated by Science Chairman Brion Patterson and were accepted by the 1986 symposium. They were Lee Baines, Neil Burke, Michael DeLuise, Tom Massie, Kristi Pendleton, and Richard Tribino. The students were accompanied by science teacher Theresa McGrady.
According to Mr. Patterson these students, who are members of his chemistry class, were mainly selected on the basis of this year’s chemistry grades and previous science grades. Applications also included class rank and grade
