High SAT scores
Ten Wakefield seventh graders have been cited by the Center for the Advancement of Academically Talented Youth for their high scores on the SAT-College Board Examinations, which they took in January of this year.
Under the “Talent Search” program sponsored by Johns Hopkins University, seventh graders showing academic promise are enrolled to take the SATs which are normally taken only by college-bound juniors and seniors. Those seventh graders i who aebre above' the avteage/cf>*ok»>!! lege-bound seniors are neligible for CTY’s summer programs in the humanities, mathematics, and sciences.
The 10 Wakefield students who scored above the national average of college-bound seniors are Bridget Butler, Lee Daugherty, Jeff Dickerson, Katie Holland, Sharon Homg, Lewis Martin, James Stephens, Laurie Tice, John Viega and Christa Vogel.
Five of these students, Lee Daugherty, Jeff Dickerson, Sharon Homg, Lewis Martin and John Viega, scored high enough to be eligible for the state ceremony honoring those participants with the highest mathematics/verbal scores. That ceremony will be held at the University of Virginia on May 10. 06302Wakefield’s highest seventh grade scorer was Jeff Dickerson, who achieved scores of 620 in both verbal and mathematics.
