Exempted are “ordinary repairs,” listed as: Painting, roofing when not exceeding 100 square feet of roof area, glass in single-family buildings, doors (except those in fire-rated wall assemblies or exitways and the required exit of a dwelling), floor coverings and porch floorings, repairs to cracks in plaster and interior tile work and cabinets installed in residential buildings.
“The county had some leeway before but not any more,” Supervisor Hubert Gilkey noted, referring to Rappahannock’s waiver of building permits for structures costing less than $5,000, invalidated as of April 1 by the new state law.
