The Fauquier Circuit Court jury believed her testimony and, after an eight-hour trial and 90 minutes of deliberation Monday, sentenced Edward Bodge, 29, of Warrenton, to 20 years in prison for sodomizing the girl on July 16. He could have been sentenced to life in prison.
But the jury found Bodge innocent of molesting the child’s 6-year-old sister on July 16. He faced up to 20 years in prison on the aggravated sexual battery charge.
Clarke may hike fees
The Clarke County Planning Commission is recommending the supervisors increase and sometimes even quadruple zoning and subdivision fees.
The commissioners unanimously endorsed the change last Friday, suggesting the fee hike could pay all or part of the salary of a new zoning ordinance officer position the commission has requested for the county’s planning department.
Planning Administrator Kenneth Markert compared Clarke’s fee schedule with neighboring Loudoun County’s. Based on the number of zoning matters handled in 1985, for which Clarke received $4,825, Markert said Loudoun’s fee schedule would have generated $25,725.
With an estimated salary of $15,000 for a zoning administrator, Markert said, “we could have paid for that position.”
One of the biggest changes comes in subdivision fees. The commission recommended upping the preliminary plat filing fee from $25 and $15 per lot to $150 plus $60 per lot.
