Halfway down the mountain, Pegasus (a helicopter from Charlottesville) and its specially-trained crew arrived to assist with the badly injured boy.
After 4V2 hours of strenuous and dangerous maneuvers to rescue the boy, he was loaded in Pegasus to be flown to Charlottesville for special trauma care.
If it had not been for this group of individuals, the situation could have been much worse. I would like to give special thanks to Kenny Pullen, Buddy Turnmeyer, Rat Thompson (Flint Hill Rescue), Gary Jenkins (Washington Rescue), Curtis Crawford (Sperryville Rescue), and Lt. Jeff Brown, Deputy Eric Heflin, Dispatcher Sheila Scott (Rappahannock County Sheriffs Department) and the Pegasus crew for their dedication.
