Spring Musical

On Sunday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the Front Royal Presbyterian Church, the renowned Front Royal Oratorio Society will herald the coming of spring and culminate their 25th anniversary celebration.

Under the artistic directions of Ronald Johnston and accompanist Beverly Clark, the group will present one of its most memorable programs. Shubert’s Mass in G will open the program accompanied by a string ensemble and pipe organ. Frostiana, the work of Randall Thompson and featuring the poems of Robert Frost, will please the ear and lift the spirit. Thompson’s Allelulia will close the program.

The program promises to be an outstanding musical experience music lovers will not want to miss. A reception in the church fellowship hall will make the evening completely delightful.

Sewing for fun

Sewing for fun sessions will be held May 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Rappahannock Courthouse. The sewing class is designed for persons of all ages with no sewing experience. This is not just for girls and women — the boys and men are welcome also. Topics will include machine operation, basic sewing skills, and pattern layout.

Participants will supply sewing equipment and materials for projects. A limited number of machines are available. Those having portables are encouraged to bring them. Pre-register by April 29 by calling the Rappahannock Extension Office at 675-3619.

Virginia Cooperative Extension programs, activities, and employment opportunities are available to all people regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, handicap, or political affiliation.

Culinary demonstration

The Goose Creek Herb Guild announces that Susan Belsinger will give a culinary demonstration on cooking with herbs at their April 17 meeting at 10:30 a.m. at the Middleburg Community Center. Ms. Belsinger co-authored the book, Cooking With Herbs, with Carolyn Dille, and will use some of its recipes in her demonstration. Persons interested in attending the meeting should make reservations by calling 777-1787 or 777-8420 after 5 p.m..

Warrenton spring festival set

Now in its seventh year, the Old Town Warrenton Spring Festival, scheduled for Saturday, May 17, has become an important tradition in Fauquier County and surrounding areas.

Applications for the 166 display spaces in Old Town Warrenton are now being taken on a first-comeufirst-served basis. Applications may be picked up at Carter’s Department Store (703-347-2982) and Furniture Interiors (703-347-1695) on Main Street, Warrenton. In addition to providing display space, application fees are also used to provide publicity for the Festival and its participants.
